Early hour - a simple online game

It's very simple.

It's mostly based on luck. Plus a little bit of psychology and inspiration.

It's played by 2 people over the Internet. They both simultaneously pick an hour between 1 and 12. (No minutes, just a full hour, a simple number from 1 to 12.) The one who has the earlier hour wins.

There's a catch of course. You don't know if you pick an AM or PM hour. (Otherwise it would be too easy, you always pick 1 and are guaranteed a win or at least a draw.)

So, if I pick 2 and you pick 7, I win because 2 is before 7. If I pick 2 and you pick 9, you win because 9 AM is before 2 PM. (The comparison is always done over the shortest time interval.)

If I pick 2 and you pick 8, it's a draw. Also, if we both pick 2 of course.

That's all.

Or, there's also the weirder variant in which 1 is smaller than any other hour except 12. So, in any case the smaller number wins, except if one has 1 and the other has 12, then the 12 wins. (So that 1 is still not a guaranteed winner.) It might even be a little bit more interesting like this.

A few additional thoughts.

It can even be played on a smartwatch. How many games in this world can be played on a smartwatch ?

It might turn out, if it's ever done, that it's not completely based on luck. 2 people playing it will try to out-guess and out-smart each other, and in some instances this might result in something very different from a random outcome.
